Let there be dark
Project: Alkaff Crescent
When envisioning family homes, bright airy spaces often come to mind. Yet, Alkaff Crescent is the exception to the rule…
As fellow creatives, our clients’ discerning taste for dark, sophisticated hues took centre stage. At the same time, they sought to transcend space limitations and build a cosy haven for daily living, working, and hosting. Given these considerations, we embraced an open-concept approach for the living space by converting a bedroom into an open study while adding wardrobe space for storage functionality.
To create dark allure, we played around with materials and textures — walls in natural concrete, cabinetry in a mixture of opulent dark wood, and dark bronze metallic finishing. Another standout feature was the diagonal walnut floor tiles, pieced together to form an intricate board parquet diamond. Finally, strategic black mirror fittings were the key to optics by reflecting natural light and imparting a sense of expansiveness.
